Why were llamas so important?
Because they could survive in the Incas' mountain homeland, over 10,000 ft (3,000 meters) above sea level. It was cold and windy there, and few plants grew. The Incas wove clothes and blankets from Ilamas' soft, warm fleece, and used llamas to carry heavy loads up steep mountain paths.
