At first, the stone falls faster and faster at a rate of 9.8 metres (32 ft) per second at every second. But as the stone's speed accelerates, air resistance increases until it becomes so great that the stone cannot fall any faster. It now continues to fall at the same velocity, called the terminal velocity.
