Water-holding frogs live in pools in Australian deserts. As the dry season approaches and the pool dries up, the frog absorbs water, which it stores under its skin. Its whole body swells until it is completely bloated. Then it burrows into the mud, to survive the drought, and only emerges again when the next rain falls.
