Scorpions use their stings mainly in self-defence, against enemies that might attack them. Only rarely do they sting their own prey insects, mice, and lizards. Scorpions usually kill their prey by crushing them in their powerful pincer-like claws, but if a victim puts up a fierce fight, the scorpion will use its sting to paralyze it.
