Although they are cold-blooded, the body temperature of reptiles can soar, to a level that would kill any mammal, so they can be happily active in heat that would be uncomfortable for us. In the hottest places it is too warm even for reptiles, so they hide underground, during the daytime, and come out to hunt in the cool of the night.
