What is a fetus?
A fetus is an unborn baby from eight weeks after conception until birth. In the first seven weeks after conception it is called an embryo. By 14 weeks the fetus is fully formed, but it is too small and frail to survive outside the womb. Babies of 24 weeks can survive in an incubator if they are born early, but most stay in the womb for the full 36 weeks.
