Chimpanzees live in forest and grasslands in West and Central Africa. There is another less familiar chimpanzee species called the pygmy chimpanzee, or bonobo, which lives in rain forests in Zaire/Congo in Africa. It is slimmer and lighter than the common chimpanzee and spends more of its time in trees.
