Which animals use their tails like flags?
When ring-tailed lemurs go for a walk through the forests of Madagascar to patrol their territory, each lemur keeps its stripy tail raised high in the air. This is a signal to the other lemurs, like someone waving a flag. It shows them where each lemur is, and helps to keep the group together. The lemurs mark the trees in their territory with a smelly scent, to warn other ring-tails to keep out.
