Piranhas are small, snappy fish with a terrible reputation. The deadliest of all freshwater fish, they live in the rivers of South America. They usually prey on other fish, but may attack larger animals that fall into the water or come there to drink, such as tapirs, horses, and cows. Not all piranhas eat meat. Some are harmless vegetarians, living on a diet of fruit!
