Which rainforest insect looks like a flower?
In the rainforest, things aren't always what they seem. Many animals are cleverly disguised as twigs, leaves, bark, and even flowers. This hides them from hungry enemies, and allows them to sneak up on prey unawares. The exquisite orchid mantis, of Malaysia, looks just like a beautiful flower, right down to its delicate petals. The mantis lurks on a twig, ready to shoot out its arms and grab interested insects, such as flies and butterflies.
